Food For Fuel

by | Jun 24, 2020 | Food, Wisdom

I was born and raised the first 10+ years of my life in Texas. Ya’ll, southern food is different from healthy food, just in case you were wondering. We had meat, potatoes and bread at every meal. There was usually vegetables too, but they were most often corn, carrots or peas. All super carby veggies!

Add on top of that, I got really sick at a 4th of July party when I was about 7 or 8 and the only thing I had eaten was a salad. I swore off green things after that for many years to come.

I raised my kids for the majority of their childhood on ramen noodles, pop tarts, and Hamburger Helper. Don’t forget the Spaghetti O’s and Happy Meals!

When I look back on all of that, I literally gag just a little. Not to say that I now the picture of healthy eating. That is a far cry from the truth, but I can say that fast food is not part of my diet, I track what I eat (but still indulge), and soda hasn’t touched my lips since last year. It didn’t all change over night, but every day I make conscious choices to fuel my body rather than feed my face.
